History of Mala Beads:
The history of mala beads is somewhat murky, but they are believed to have originated in India around the 8th century BCE, most likely made from Rudraksha or Lotus seeds. They were originally used by Hindu sadhus, or holy men, to help them focus their minds during meditation, by thumbing the beads between their fingers as they focused on the inhale and exhale, or a round of chanting a traditional mantra. Over time, the use of mala beads spread to other religions, but are still used purpossefully by spiritual seekers to help connect the wearer to the divine.
 
How to use your Mala:
Place it in your dominant hand, and use your fingers and thumb to count the beads, while chanting a mantra or affirmation, so the eyes can remain internally focused on Ajna chakra (the third eye), aiding in intuition, connection with source/spirit, and deep self intrigue (among other things). It is also common for people to wear these as necklaces to subconsciously focus on what they are trying to manifest withen their lives (e.g. peace, clarity, wealth, confidence etc.) often by aligning a crystal that holds the vibration of this intention.
